Ethiopia’s Shaggar City of Oromia region and the Chinese Ganzhou City of Jiangxi Province have signed a friendship Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) today to work together in urban development activities.
The Mayor of Shaggar City, Teshome Adunga, and Chairman and Secretary of the CPC leadership Group of the standing committee of Ganzhou Municipal People’s Congress, Zhao Duoxian signed the friendship agreement in Addis Ababa.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Mayor Teshome said Shaggar City was established in 2022 by merging 6 small towns around Addis Ababa with the view to improve the life quality of the people.
“We need collaboration from countries, especially from China to expedite the development activities in the city,” he added.
According to him, the partnership agreement will help to expedite the urban development being carried out in Sheggar City. The Mayor vowed to enhance collaboration with the city of Ganzhou to build Shaggar City with international standards.
Duoxian on his part said the two cities have the potential and the desire to expand emerging markets in the fields of economy, trade, and culture among others.
The agreement would help the two sides to establish sisterly cities to promote substantive cooperation in various fields to create a better future, he added.
Ganzhou is located in the south of Jiangxi Province with an area of 39,400 square kilometers and a population of more than 9.8 million. It is the largest and most populous districted city in Jiangxi Province.
