Over 7 Million USD Earned from Spices Export in 11 Months of Current Fiscal Year 

The Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority disclosed that 7.5 million USD has been earned from the export of 8,400 tons of spices during the last 11 months of the current Ethiopian fiscal year.

In addition to coffee, the authority has given attention to enhancing the production and marketing of spices and tea to boost foreign exchange earnings.

The Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority Director General Adunga Debela told ENA Ethiopia produces more than 50 types of spices out of which 16 are exported to the global market.

According to him, the performance has shown a 2,000-ton increment as compared to the same period of last year.

Ethiopia exports its spices products to 39 countries.

Noting that Ethiopia’s spices sector had no strategy, he pointed out that activities have been carried out to solve the problems in the sector by designing a strategy.

The authority is also working closely with the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration to improve quality to gain more income from the export, Adunga added.

Finally, he called on investors to engage in the production of spices.
