
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that enables the Ministry of Tourism, Ethiopian Immigration and Citizenship Service, and Ethiopian Airlines to work on stop over tourism was signed on Tuesday.
Tourism Minister Selamawit Kassa, Ethiopian Immigration and Citizenship Service Director-General Selamawit Dawit, and Ethiopian Airlines CEO Mesfin Tasew inked the MoU.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Selamawit Kassa said stop over tourism is one of the big opportunities with respect to tourism.
As Ethiopia has various tourist destinations such an agreement would help Ethiopia to have its position globally with respect to tourism in using the ultimate opportunity, she stated.
Ethiopian Immigration and Citizenship Service Director-General Selamawit Dawit said the service has been intensifying its effort to provide visa for travelers to facilitate tourism.
According to her, arrival visa data show that tourist flow into the country, especially in conference tourism, has been increasing.
The director-general stated that the MoU would significantly contribute to the growth of tourism in Ethiopia.
On his part, Ethiopian Airlines CEO Mesfen Tassew said the airlines has been contributing significantly to the tourism and promotion of Ethiopian heritages.
He added that the memorandum of understanding would enable the Ethiopian Airlines to foster its contribution to tourism.
