Lemi National Cement Factory has made a strong entrance into Ethiopia’s cement market, supplying over 310,000 tons since it began operations on October 31, 2024.
Currently operating at partial capacity, the factory produces up to 10,000 tons of cement daily. Once it reaches full operational status, its production capacity is expected to rise to 15,000 tons (150,000 quintals) daily. This increased output is projected to create employment opportunities for approximately 10,000 citizens.
Located in Ensaro Woreda, 130 kilometers north of Addis Ababa, the factory was launched to help stabilize the country’s cement market by promptly supplying high-demand products.
A joint venture between Ethiopian and Chinese investors, Lemi National Cement Factory is poised to become the largest cement producer in Africa once it reaches full capacity.
Officials have emphasized the factory’s role in enhancing market stability and supporting Ethiopia’s broader economic transformation efforts.
