Investors in Bahir Dar Industrial Park win acclaim for import substitution production success

Investors engaged in the Bahir Dar Industrial Park are contributing to the country’s economic growth by generating foreign exchange and producing import substitution products.

The General Manager of the Bahir Dar Branch of the Industrial Parks Development Corporation, Ms. Truye Qumie, said many of the investors in the park are engaged in agro-processing and manufacturing sectors.

According to her, these firms are playing their part in economic growth by increasing foreign exchange earnings, producing import substitution products, facilitating market linkages for farmers’ products, and creating job opportunities.

She pointed out that five investors are also currently engaged in transformer manufacturing and agro-processing, and said that they are exporting their products to earn foreign exchange and substituting imported products.

Bahir Dar Industrial Park is reportedly equipped with an independent electricity service, a deep water well, an organized database, and security cameras to ensure its safety. Ms. Truye also told local news agency ENA that the Bahir Dar Industry Park has a one-stop service center, a standard sewage disposal system, a fire brigade, and other infrastructure.

She said that there are three sheds and 96 hectares of unoccupied land in the park, and called on foreign and local investors to come to engage in the park.

It is worth noting that Bahir Dar Industrial Park is among the 10 industrial parks that have been upgraded into special economic zones by the Ethiopian Investment Commission last week.
