Institute of Ethiopian Standards Enforces National Standard Mark for Mandatory Products

The Institute of Ethiopian Standards (IES) has called on all products subject to mandatory standards to display the national standard mark, reinforcing quality assurance and consumer protection efforts.

The Ethiopian Conformity Assessment Enterprise and Bless Agro Food Industry previously issued national quality marks on behalf of the institute. However, the institute has now taken full control of the certification process and is directly granting the national quality mark for products classified as mandatory.

Brook Habte, the institute’s Public Relations Director, stated: “In the past month alone, we have mandated standards for 370 products”. He warned that businesses failing to comply with the requirement will face enforcement measures.

The implementation of the national standard mark, he added, is crucial for safeguarding consumer health and protecting manufacturers from counterfeit or substandard products in the market.
