Minister of Agriculture, Girma Amenti urged financial institutions in Ethiopia to further enhance their financial provision for farmers to bring about agricultural transformation in the country.
Speaking at the agricultural and financial service seminar held today, the Minister said financial services for the agriculture sector and rural development in Ethiopia is one of the critical enablers in transforming the Ethiopian food system.
He added that access to credit for our farmers and pastoralists, especially for the smallholder farmers is pivotal including risk insurance.
In this regard, the minister underscored the need to enhance synergy between financial institutions, insurance providers, and the agricultural community to help farmers access fertilizers, improved seeds, and other agricultural inputs.
Girma expressed his heartfelt gratitude to partners, policymakers, and financial institutions to discuss the matter and put the way forward for a better future.
Representatives of financial institutions including commercial banks and micro financial institutions are participating in the seminar.
The objective of the seminar is to exchange views and discuss ways in which financial institutions collaborate with farmers in their efforts to enhance productivity and income.
