Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation Managing 57 Projects Worth Birr 45.2 billion

The Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation (ECWC) announced that it is currently managing 57 projects with a combined contract value of Birr 45.2 billion. The state-owned construction firm aims to generate Birr 1.9 billion in revenue this fiscal year.

Mekonnen Bekele, Head of the Communication Affairs Department, stated that the corporation has received Birr 7.5 billion in payments over the past six months, earning a profit of Birr 881.6 million. During this period, 13 construction projects and one transportation project were completed and handed over. These include prefabricated housing units, a federal police hospital, a pharmacy, sewage treatment plants, and a safety tank.

ECWC is focused on timely project delivery, maintaining quality standards, and managing costs. It has also expanded its role in construction materials production, launching various factories and partnering with international organizations to enhance local input production. The corporation is manufacturing key materials such as columns, beams, slabs, and concrete at the Qaliti Industrial Village, helping to reduce foreign exchange costs.

Looking ahead, ECWC aims to rank among the top three construction firms in Africa within five years. It has also signed a joint agreement with East African Holding to address cement shortages and established a Building Information Model to improve design efficiency.

As a government entity, ECWC remains a major player in water, transportation, housing, and real estate development.
