Ethiopian Airlines CEO, Former President attend inauguration of new duty-free shop at Skylight Hotel

Mesfin Tasew, the Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Airlines, and Mulatu Teshome, the Former President of Ethiopia, joined other dignitaries to inaugurate the Millennium Duty-Free shop at the Skylight Hotel in Addis Ababa.

During the ceremony, Tasew emphasized the significance of the new duty-free shop in enhancing customer service for airline travelers. He expressed excitement over Country Trading’s expansion, which now allows hotel guests to conveniently shop while enjoying their stay. “This shop is designed not only for transit passengers but also the diplomatic community-based in Addis Ababa, offering easy access to their shopping needs,” he said.

Ashenafi Embeza, Head of Group Director at Country Trading PLC, highlighted the aim of the shop to enhance the shopping experience for international travelers and contribute to Ethiopia’s economic growth through increased foreign exchange earnings. He also noted that the new store builds upon the success of Country Trading’s first duty-free outlet at Bole International Airport, reinforcing the company’s presence in Ethiopia’s expanding market.

Given its strategic location near Bole International Airport, the Millennium Duty-Free shop is poised to support Addis Ababa’s growth as a diplomatic and economic center, as stated by Ahenafi. The opening ceremony was attended by government officials, members of the diplomatic community, and representatives from international organizations.
