Metered taxi service provider Yango has launched a new initiative to provide its drivers with full premium insurance coverage.
In a tripartite agreement signed today with Nib Bank and Nib Insurance, Yango will now enable drivers – who currently hold only the legally required third-party insurance – to upgrade to comprehensive premium insurance.
“This agreement addresses a critical challenge faced by our drivers and provides them with affordable access to full insurance protection,” said Tewodros Mehari, Deputy Country Manager for Ethiopia at G2G IT Solutions, the company managing Yango operations in the country.
He emphasized that most Yango drivers rely solely on third-party insurance, which leaves them vulnerable to substantial out-of-pocket costs in case of accidents. “Many drivers end up using their primary source of income – their vehicles – to cover repairs, putting both their livelihoods and families at risk,” he added.
