Ethiopia transported more than 15.8 million metric tons of revenue and expenditure cargo during the first 11 months of the current Ethiopian fiscal year, according to a report presented to the House of People’s Representatives by the Ministry of Transport and Logistics.

Transport and Logistics Minister Alemu Sime (PhD) delivered the performance report, detailing that over 14.2 million metric tons of incoming goods and 1.6 million metric tons of outgoing cargo were moved during the reporting period.

The Minister highlighted that over 2.4 million metric tons of the total cargo consisted of soil fertilizer. He noted that significant efforts were made to ensure the timely transportation of this critical input, especially in response to increased demand.

The ministry also reported that 3.5 million metric tons of liquid products were transported, meeting 96% of the year’s target for such commodities.

In terms of transport mode, road haulage accounted for 84% of the total cargo movement, followed by rail at 14%, with the remainder transported by air.

In addition to freight achievements, the report noted that 960 million people were transported nationwide through public transportation. The average service coverage for cross-country buses reached 105,000 kilometers during the year.

Minister Alemu also confirmed to parliament that the government’s targeted fuel subsidy program was fully implemented.
