The Ministry of Industry announced the successful conclusion of the 2024 Expo of Ethiopia Tamrit Movement, which generated over Birr 3 billion over its five-day run.
Minister of Industry Melaku Alebel highlighted the event’s achievements, which included participation from over 100,000 individuals and institutions, alongside representatives from 57 countries and 157 diplomats. Additionally, 210 manufacturing industries participated in the Expo, resulting in more than 8,188 transactions and exceeding the Birr 3 billion birr mark.
The five-day event, which started on May 9th at the Millennium Hall, aimed to generate Birr three billion in market linkages between Ethiopian manufacturers and domestic and international buyers.
The companies that participated represented sectors such as leather goods, textiles, construction materials, automobiles, electronics, and more. Roughly 120 of these were large-scale industries, while the remaining were SMEs.
The movement prioritizes import substitution and cost reduction. By fostering market linkages and showcasing industry potential, the expo aims to achieve these goals. The program will conclude with an awards ceremony recognizing individuals and entities who have significantly contributed to import substitution and export market growth.
