
BRICS Sherpas and Sous-Sherpas meeting concluded with a high-level session presided by Lula da Silva, President of Brazil.
President Lula outlined Brazil’s priority areas in global health cooperation, inclusive artificial intelligence governance, a reformed global economic and financial architecture, effective climate finance architecture, enhanced global south cooperation, and robust institutional development.
He pointed out BRICS countries to discharge their solemn responsibility of upholding multilateralism centered on the United Nations
In its participation in the six thematic sessions, Ethiopia reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to multilateralism, collective security and sustainable development.
On the matter of global health, Ethiopia called on BRICS countries to redouble efforts to address grave infrastructure gaps that underpin vulnerability of countries for global public health risks.
On economy and trade, Ethiopia emphasized the need to put development at the center of BRICS engagement in manner that creates predictable market access, enhances development finance mobilization, addresses infrastructure gap and attracts quality investments.

On climate change, Ethiopia outlined the concrete steps it has taken to enhance natural carbon sinks through the Green Legacy Initiative as well as fossil fuel substitution and called on BRICS countries to demonstrate leadership through the full implementation commitments under the UNFCCC, including the Paris Agreement.
In the field of Artificial Intelligence, Ethiopia underscored the need to enhancing capacity building for developing countries and improving AI governance with due regard to the commitments made within the UN framework in the Digital Compact.
Ethiopia also reassured its resolve to consolidate the BRICS family and conveyed its support for a more inclusive and representative BRICS.
On the sidelines of the BRICS meeting, Governor Mamo Mihretu held discussions with the Sherpas of Brazil, Indonesia, Russia, South Africa, India and the UAE.
The meetings focused on exchange of views on the respective priorities of the countries and the ways of ensuring complementarity and enhancing bilateral cooperation.
