Ethiopia signed a 9.5 million Euros (approximately 590 million Ethiopian Birr) grant agreement with Finland at the Ministry of Finance.
The purpose of the grant agreement is to implement the third phase of the Responsible and Innovative Land Administration (REILA-III) project which aims for better land tenure security, incentives, and knowledge for smallholder farmers to invest in climate-smart agriculture, and provide grounds in long-term for improved livelihoods, income generation and climate resilience.
The third phase of Responsible and Innovative Land Administration will build on the previous phases of the project to strengthen the sustainability of the National Rural Land Administration and Information system and will further improve land governance and use of climate-smart agriculture practices.
According to the Ministry of Finance, Finland’s financial contribution to the previous REILA I and REILA II phases which started in 2011 amounts to more than 21 million euros.
The Agreement was signed by Ms. Semereta Sewasew, State Minister of Finance, and Sinikka Antila Ambassador of Finland to Ethiopia.
