Ethiopia: Oda Solar Power Project Inaugurated in Oromia

The Oda Solar Power Project, a 370-kilowatt solar energy facility built at Birr 195 million, was officially inaugurated in Medewelabu Woreda, East Borena Zone, Oromia Regional State.

Speaking at the inauguration, State Minister of Water and Energy, Dr. Sultan Wali, highlighted that the project will provide electricity to approximately 15,000 rural residents. He noted that this development is expected to enhance economic activities in both rural and urban areas while creating significant job opportunities for local youth. Dr. Sultan urged the community to adopt a sense of ownership and ensure the proper utilization and maintenance of the solar power infrastructure.

Engineer Million Bekele, Head of the Oromia Regional Water and Energy Bureau, emphasized the importance of maintaining the facility to guarantee the long-term availability of electricity services in the region.

The Oda Solar Power Project was developed with the Ministry of Water and Energy, the German International Development Cooperation (GIZ), the European Union, and the Oromia Regional Water and Energy Bureau.
