Ethiopia: Ministry of Revenues Collects Birr 380 Billion in Five Months

Ethiopia’s Ministry of Revenues (MoR) announced that Birr 380 billion was collected in the first five months of the current fiscal year.

Revenue Minister Aynalem Nigussie attributed this achievement to the government’s reforms in tax policy and administration, which aimed to maximize domestic income to support Ethiopia’s development plans.

“Enhancing domestic revenue is critical for improving infrastructure and achieving the development aspirations of the Ethiopian people,” Minister Aynalem stated. She highlighted that the revenue collection process had undergone transformative reforms, including improved policies, strengthened legal frameworks, and technological innovations to streamline service delivery.

The Minister underscored the progress made since the 2017/18 fiscal year when federal revenue stood at Birr 176 billion. “Recent reforms have significantly enhanced the capacity for revenue generation, as reflected in the Birr 380 billion collected over just five months,” she noted.

The Minister emphasized that the ongoing improvements in revenue collection are pivotal to driving the country’s development and achieving long-term economic stability.
