The Ministry of Finance, in collaboration with the Lexis Nexis Rule of Law Foundation, has launched a new online platform aimed at providing easy access to Ethiopian tax laws and regulations. The website hosts over 300 tax laws in both Amharic and English.
At the launch event, Finance State Minister Eyob Tekalegn (PhD) emphasized that the previous system of tax and levy laws was fragmented and challenging for taxpayers to navigate. This lack of clarity, he noted, has negatively impacted the country’s ability to generate revenue effectively. The introduction of the online system is expected to enhance transparency and fairness in Ethiopia’s tax framework by simplifying access to legal provisions.
The Minister also highlighted the broader economic implications of the initiative, stating that a well-organized and accessible tax system plays a pivotal role in supporting Ethiopia’s economic growth.
Additionally, the online publication of tax and duty laws is anticipated to bolster Ethiopia’s appeal to international investors. The platform is expected to provide a straightforward way for potential investors to understand the country’s tax regulations, reducing barriers to entry and promoting foreign investment. The website can be accessed at https://www.mofed.gov.et/.
