The Ministry of Revenues reported that it collected over Birr 512 billion birr was collected during the concluded fiscal year, falling short of the initial target of Birr 529 billion.
The Ministry is currently engaging with taxpayers and stakeholders to discuss tax law compliance and the execution of the 2023/24 fiscal year plan. It attributed the revenue collection to the increased compliance of taxpayers and the government’s enhanced capacity to collect taxes.
In the 2022/23 fiscal year, the government collected Birr 442 billion birr, surpassing the target of Birr 450 billion.
Finance Minister Ahmed Shide emphasized the government’s focus on macroeconomic reforms to alleviate economic pressures on citizens. He highlighted the implementation of subsidies for essential goods and fuel, including a significant allocation of Birr 15 billion for fuel subsidies in a single month.
