Ethiopia: IPDC Transfers Over 90% of Manufacturing Sheds

Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC) has announced the transfer of over 90% of its 177 manufacturing sheds across 13 industrial parks to investors, contributing to job creation and economic growth.

The transfers have generated over 100,000 jobs, with efforts underway to create even more opportunities. Each shed, some spanning up to 1.1 hectares, is designed to accommodate diverse manufacturing activities.

The remaining 10% of the sheds are under contract, with negotiations ongoing to finalize the transfers. Meanwhile, some investors have opted to lease developed land to build their facilities. The Corporation is committed to ensuring all sheds become fully operational to maximize their economic potential.

Recently, the Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC) designated 10 of these parks, including Adama, Hawassa, and Mekelle, as Special Economic Zones (SEZs). With the addition of the Dire Dawa SEZ, Ethiopia now has 11 SEZs. Efforts are ongoing to upgrade the remaining parks, Ararti and Addis Industry College, into SEZs.
