Ethiopia has earned USD 16.4 million from the export of non-gold and non-ornamental minerals over the past six months, achieving 73% of its USD 22.4 million target, according to the Ministry of Mines.
State Minister Million Mathewos stated that the country exported 105 tons of tantalum, 2,071 tons of lithium ore, 5.6 tons of opal, and 10,357 tons of industrial products. While some targets were not met, the sector demonstrated strong growth in productivity and revenue.
Efforts to modernize the ornamental mineral marketing system and combat illegal mining activities have significantly contributed to the sector’s performance. Additionally, traditional mining enterprises created over 102,000 jobs during this period.
The Ministry highlighted the impact of recent macroeconomic reforms and the establishment of trading centers, which have improved efficiency and strengthened the country’s mining sector despite challenges in meeting all targets.
