
Ethio Telecom has announced major achievements in the first half of the 2024/25 fiscal year, including saving Birr 3.5 billion through cost-effective digital services, transferring over one trillion Birr via Tele Birr, and expanding 5G services to 10 cities.
In a statement on the company’s performance, CEO Frehiwot Tamiru highlighted several key successes. Ethio Telecom earned a total revenue of Birr 61.9 billion during this period, with Birr 3.5 billion saved through measures aimed at optimizing services.
The company achieved these results by implementing effective resource utilization strategies, collaborating with partners, and embracing digitalization in its operations. Tele Birr now boasts 51.54 million users.
Tele Birr has also made progress in financial transactions, with a total of Birr 3.5 trillion transferred over the past three years. Of this, more than one trillion Birr was transferred in the last six months alone.
The company experienced growth in its customer base, adding 3.24 million new users in the first half of the fiscal year, bringing the total number of telecom service users to 80.5 million. This represents a 7.9 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Additionally, the company increased its mobile network capacity by 4.6 million, expanding 4G coverage to 67 more cities and launching 5G services in 10 cities.
On the international front, Ethio Telecom expanded its connectivity capacity through Sudan, Djibouti, Kenya, and Somaliland, adding 190 Gbps to reach a total of 1.83 terabytes per second in international bandwidth.
