The Ethio-Djibouti Railway Company has officially launched its new cargo container transport service. The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Takele Uma, and Djibouti Customs Director Guled Ahmed Youssef inaugurated the service yesterday.
The new system can transport large quantities of goods such as wheat, edible oil, and fertilizer using trailers. The containers, designed to be mounted on trailers, are expected to enhance the efficiency of bulk cargo transportation by rail, streamlining logistics and reducing reliance on traditional road transport. This development is anticipated to increase the volume of goods transported across the Ethio-Djibouti corridor, benefiting both countries.
In a statement shared on his social media platform, the CEO emphasized that the introduction of the cattle cargo container system represented a major advancement for railway transport services in the region. He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to expanding its transport services.
