Ethiopia has earned USD 908 million from coffee exports over the past six months, exceeding its target, according to the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority (ECTA).
Deputy Director General of ECTA, Shafi Umer, announced that the country exported more than 200,000 tons of coffee during this period. He attributed the achievement to increased production and productivity in the sector.
According to Shafi, Ethiopia has implemented comprehensive reforms in recent years aimed at enhancing the quality, production, and productivity of coffee. These efforts have led to notable improvements across the sector, resulting in higher export earnings.
The initial target for the six months was USD 714 million from the export of 133,000 tons of coffee. However, the country surpassed both the revenue and volume goals.
Ethiopia, the birthplace of Arabica coffee, earned over USD 1.4 billion from coffee exports in the previous Ethiopian fiscal year. For the current budget year, the country has set a target of generating USD 2 billion by exporting more than 400,000 tons of coffee.
