Ethiopia Earns USD 2.6 Billion in Export Revenue in Five Months

Ethiopia’s export sector continues to show progress, generating USD 2.6 billion in revenue during the past five months, largely driven by agricultural exports, according to State Minister of Trade and Regional Integration Yasmin Wohabrebbi.

Speaking at the Public-Private Dialogue Forum on Pulses and Oilseeds, Yasmin emphasized that agricultural products remain the backbone of Ethiopia’s export earnings, contributing the largest share of the total revenue. Pulses and oilseeds, which rank second only to coffee, have been key contributors to this impressive performance.

Highlighting the sector’s growth, Yasmin noted that Ethiopia earned more than USD 675 million from pulses and oilseeds exports last year. Over the past six years, Ethiopia has undertaken a homegrown economic reform aimed at transforming various sectors.

Yasmin stressed the importance of utilizing opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to expand market access.

Ethiopia plans to achieve USD 5 billion in total export revenue within a year, building on the momentum of its recent successes in the global market.
