Ethiopia: CBE and Ministry of Innovation Ink Deal to Digitize Federal Payment Systems

The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) and the Ministry of Innovation and Technology have signed an agreement to digitize payment collections for federal agencies.

This partnership enables digital payments for services provided by 26 federal offices and 360 associated institutions. Ato Wegayehu Gebremariam, CBE’s Vice President for Digital Banking, emphasized the convenience and efficiency of the system, urging the public to adopt digital payment methods like CBE Birr.

Dr. Yeshihun Alemayehu, State Minister of Innovation and Technology, highlighted the transformative potential of the initiative, which aims to modernize government operations and promote good governance through transparency and fairness. He revealed plans to digitize 80% of the government’s payment system nationwide.

CBE’s data shows it has collaborated with other institutions to advance the Digital Ethiopia agenda, underscoring its commitment to improving public service delivery through technology.
