Ethiopia: Addis Ababa Extends Business Hours to Boost Economic Activity

The Addis Ababa Trade Bureau announced an extension of operating hours for commercial establishments, requiring them to remain open until 9:30 p.m.

Habiba Siraj, Head of the Trade Bureau, stated that the decision was approved by the city administration cabinet as part of efforts to leverage favorable conditions in Addis Ababa, particularly in areas with significant corridor development.

In addition to the extended hours for businesses, government and private transportation services are now required to operate until 10 p.m.

The official also highlighted the growing dynamism in the city’s commercial sector, revealing that over 47,000 merchants have obtained new business licenses in the past five months. Merchants who have not yet renewed their licenses were urged to do so promptly.

To accommodate this, the bureau announced extended service hours for license renewals, operating from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. daily.
