Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy Boosts Internet Users to Over 42 Million

The Ministry of Innovation and Technology (MoIT) announced that the Digital Ethiopia 2025 Strategy has led to a dramatic increase in internet users, surpassing 42 million from just 17 million at its launch.

State Minister Yishurun Alemayehu highlighted that key reforms, such as the partial privatization of Ethio Telecom and the liberalization of the telecom sector, have accelerated growth. Additionally, the strategy has improved access to electricity and enabled the establishment of large-scale data centers by both the government and private investors. Three tier-3 data centers have been constructed, and high-capacity facilities in the ICT Park are attracting domestic and foreign investors.

Progress has also been made in providing online government services, with over 800 services now accessible. The government has approved strategies for e-commerce, digital government, and e-governance to enhance public service delivery.

To build a digitally skilled workforce, the government launched the 5 Million Ethiopian Coders program. Preparations are also underway for the Digital Ethiopia 2030 Strategy, which aims to address gaps and build an inclusive digital economy.
