Deputy Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Marian Jurečka has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to continue supporting Ethiopia to utilize its ample groundwater resources properly.

Jurečka arrived in Addis Ababa on Saturday for an official working visit to Ethiopia and scheduled meetings with senior government officials to exchange views on various issues of mutual interest.
After visiting the Ministry of Water and Energy today, Jurečka said “For me, this is the third visit to Ethiopia and it is great to see how this country has been developing.”
Stating that without water, there is no agriculture or industry and there is no life, he said therefore, thanks to Czech scientific capacity, the Czech companies have been helping Ethiopia’s water sector.
Noting that several generations have already been working on it, he said I would like to express my gratitude to everybody who worked on it or has been working on it both on the Czech and Ethiopian side.
Following his presentation on Czech-Ethiopia’s long-term Cooperation in the Water Sector, State Minister of Water and Energy Abraha Adugna affirmed that Ethiopia and the Czech Republic have enjoyed strong cooperation in the water sector.
For the state minister, Czech has been supporting Ethiopia’s water sector based on geological surveys in some parts of the country.
The main target of Czech’s project is to identify the potential of Ethiopia’s groundwater and utilize such resources for drinking water, irrigation, and industry, the state minister pointed out.
The Czech Republic and Ethiopia have a long history of cooperation as the recent visits of the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister of the Czech Republic are a testament to the strong and enduring ties between the two countries.
