The 12th International Conference on Pulses and Oil Seeds kicked off in Addis Ababa today to discuss the current global trade patterns of the sector and enhance trade relations among stakeholders.
The conference is the largest event in Eastern and Sub-Saharan Africa as it has attracted stakeholders of the sector from across the world.
More than 400 participants attending the conference including international buyers, importer associations, importers, exporters, value chain companies, and service providers as well as agro-processing industries and grain producers’ traders have been participating at the conference. Fertilizer suppliers, machine suppliers, and Agrochemical suppliers are also in attendance.
It was indicated that 16 highly experienced businessmen and experts in the industry are expected to make a speech on the current global trade patterns of the sector during the two-day conference.
Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration organized the conference in Collaboration with the Ethiopian Pulses, Oilseeds, and Spices Processors Exporters Association.
Opening the conference, Minister of Trade and Regional Integration, Gebremeskel Challa said pulses, oilseeds, and spices are the major export agricultural products of Ethiopia.
The conference will play a pivotal role in strengthening the trade relations of domestic exporters and establishing new business links, according to ENA.
The government is extensively working to improve the quality and quantity of these agricultural products with a view to strengthening the country’s export revenue.
He said the government is also facilitating infrastructure and formulating quality policy to promote trade and investment.
The government also introduced various initiatives to further promote the overall investment activities of the country.
